Born in Los Angeles, raised in Denver, and currently living in the Big Apple, 24-year-old Tom Bond has worked at our downtown shop for the past year. Tom’s deep roots in snowboarding, his collaborative spirit and artistic talents make him a valued member of the Blades family.
“I found my way to Blades based mainly on snowboarding,” Tom says. “The last thing I thought I’d be doing when I came to NYC was working at a snowboard shop; but I’ve been on the mountain since I was three, riding since I was nine, and Blades worked out perfectly. Being around snowboarding in particular has helped me stay connected to what I know and love from home.”
Tom earned a studio art degree from the University of Colorado, and also spent time in London honing his fine art abilities. With degree in hand and international experience under his belt, Tom was drawn to New York City because he wanted to live in one of the world’s most creative hubs to pursue his art career and explore new opportunities.
“My artwork and general aesthetic draw influence from growing up with easy access to both untouched natural environments and city life – the dichotomy between nature and development,” Tom says. “I’m continually inspired by my travels and experiences with new people and cultures, as well as the constant urge to always be on the move to new places.”
In the spirit of embarking on new adventures and expanding one’s horizons, Blades is proud to host Tom’s first-ever NYC art show at our 659 Broadway location. Entitled “Run For The Hills,” which references the dance between city life and the necessary relief from it, a special opening night reception for Blades family and friends will be held on Thursday night, October 6th. Tom’s artwork will remain on display throughout the store until mid-November, so stop by to check it out if you’re in the neighborhood.
We’ve also tapped Tom’s sublime illustration talents for a limited edition collaboration with Good Wood NYC that will be sold exclusively at Blades beginning in early October. More on the Blades x Tom Bond x Good Wood collab coming soon…
